Cate Apartments (LIHI Family Housing)

Seattle, WA | Architect: Runberg Architecture Group | Completion Date: 2003

Quantum Consulting Engineers provided structural design for a 27,000 SF mixed-use development in Seattle, Washington. The Low Income Housing Institute (LiHi), in conjunction with the Fremont Public Association / Solid Ground program, helped to fund this 31-unit facility for low-income and homeless families in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle.

Creating a strong sense of community at LiHi and the surrounding neighborhood was an important design goal. Wood-framed residential units were carefully situated within a courtyard environment, which fosters a feeling of connection to the community, while also lending a sense of individual dwelling. The building features an entry plaza and lounge, residential floor plans that range from studio to three-bedrooms, and over 3,000 SF of street-level retail space.

Fifteen of the 31 units serve homeless families in transitional housing for up to two years at a time. Ten units are reserved for Seattle Housing Authority Holly Park replacement units.
