Del Mar Station Transit Village
Pasadna, CA | Architect: Nadel Architects and
Moule & Polyzoides | Completion Date: 2007
Quantum Consulting Engineers provided structural design and construction administration for the Del Mar Station Transit Village, which has become one of the most prominent mixed-use transit-oriented developments along the new Gold Line light rail system linking downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena.
The 4.1-acre site includes 347 housing units (6% set aside for affordable housing), 20,000 SF of retail area, and a subterranean garage for 1,200 cars. It incompasses roughly 929,000 SF.
The project included a multi-building, 433,000 SF residential superstructure over four levels of subterranean parking. Features include a fitness center, a business center, and a pool and community lounge on the fourth floor overlooking Pasadena's Central Park. The design incorporates a variety of building and unit types (including Spanish Revival, Art Deco, Craftsman, and Industrial Modern), around extensive networks of public plazas at the transit stop. Three of the eight apartment buildings are seven stories tall (above grade) and all are composed of load-bearing metal studs and joists.
