Safari Drive
Scottsdale, AZ | Architect: The Miller|Hull Partnership | Project Completion Date: 2008
Quantum Consulting Engineers is providing structural design for a 227-unit mixed-use residential complex, created to be a new and vibrant live/work neighborhood in downtown Scottsdale, Arizona. With neighborhood retail space and a one-level underground parking level, Safari Drive will feature swimming pools, water features, outdoor community areas and abundant landscaping. A variety of scale and materials are used throughout the 11-building complex.
Structurally, the buildings will be comprised of different combinations of masonry and light-gauge steel walls, light gauge joists floors, and exposed timber roof and loft framing. The below-grade parking structure will encompass most of the site, and will provide generous headroom and parking stalls.
In keeping with a goal of protecting the environment, special "green building," features have been incorporated into the design:
1. The parking garage lid design allows for deep planting beds, which will not only allow a significant increase in planting, but will also conceal the existence of the parking structure below.
2. Use of building materials suitable for the dry, hot climate, while at the same time providing protection from the elements and reducing maintenance costs.
3. Carefully planned vehicle access in conjunction with emissions exhaust control from the garage.
4. Advanced cooling tower technology.
