Hat Island Cabin
Hat Island, WA | Architect: BjarkoSerra Architects | Completion Date: 2008
Dan Fenton was the project manager for this cabin located on low bank waterfront at Hat Island. The weekend cabin is composed of two structures - a one-story living pavilion and a two-story sleeping pavilion. Wood decks surround and tie the pavilions together. A cantilever concrete screen wall at the north end of the deck provides privacy and acts as a wind screen. Glass infilled slots allow light to filter through the wall. The living pavilion is an open plan with glass walls on the water side and deep cantilevered overhangs for shading. Sliding glass doors open to the deck on the waterside. The structures are raised off the ground to accommodate tidal surges.
