AIA Civic Design Award: Olympic High School

Olympic High School recently received the AIA WA Civic Design award.  Winners of the Civic Design Award have demonstrated excellence in sustainability, innovation, building performance and successful integration with the surrounding community.  Quantum is honored to have provided structural design services for OHS and we look forward to seeing its impact for the decades to come.

Special thanks to Sundberg Kennedy Ly-Au Architects for bringing us on board.

Snoqualmie Ridge Retail Center

Snoqualmie Ridge Retail Center

Snoqualmie, WA

Quantum Consulting Engineers is providing on-going structural design of a growing retail complex on the ridge in Snoqualmie, Washington. To support the thriving new planned community that recently incorporated to become the City of Snoqualmie, five retail buildings and a grocery store have been constructed within a two-block area atop the ridge, offering sweeping views of the nearby Cascade Mountains. Each of the commercial buildings was designed as a multi-unit retail center, providing ample square feet of leasable retail space. Tenants include restaurants, a bank, a hair salon, a beer and wine shop, a dentist, and other professional and retail services. Two additional retail buildings are currently under construction at a nearby site.

The Red Door

The Red Door

Seattle, WA

Quantum principals, Dan Fenton and Sandro Kodama provided structural design for the extensive remodel and relocation of a 101-year old wood-framed mixed-use office building and restaurant. Because The Red Door is a local icon, the building’s owner wanted to preserve and restore it, and at the same time, make room for another development on the original site, which is located in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, Washington.

The design/build program required a significant renovation of the structural system, removing existing bearing walls, adding transfer beams, adding new shear walls and framing to expand the tenant space, and upgrading the seismic resisting system. At the new site one block away, a concrete podium with three levels of below-grade parking was constructed to serve as the new base for the structure. Excavation shoring design was challenging due to a tight, sloping site and existing fill from Ship Canal construction.

Once the building was relocated, remodeled, and retrofitted, final touches were added: a wavy plaza stair, a CMU stair/elevator tower, and a glass and steel skybridge gallery.

Quantum Consulting Engineers provided construction administration for the seismic upgrade of the Melbourne Tower’s parapet in Seattle, Washington. In addition, we provided peer review of the design for a tenant improvement project – a new Walgreens drug store on the ground floor.

Quantum Consulting Engineers provided the structural engineering design services for a new 2 story bank and office building and 880 square foot detached drive through canopy. The building contains 9,000 square feet of enclosed area. Large diameter drilled piers along the east property line support vertical loads without surcharging the neighbor’s basement wall. Long span steel framing provide a column free bank hall on the main level. The brick veneer exterior with exposed steel channel lintels tie the new building with the Ballard historic district. Perimeter steel moment frames allow for unobstructed window openings.
