A significant portion of Patagonia’s existing surface parking lot was enhanced by adding a system of elevated photovoltaic panels, which both generate power for the campus and reduce the heat-island effect by shielding the paved surfaces.

The Patagonia campus is located approximately 65 miles northwest of Los Angeles on the western edge of the city of Ventura, close to the Ventura River and ocean beaches. In response to the regional setting, climate and existing conditions, the concept for an urban, sustainable campus was developed to supports Patagonia’s culture and identifies this location as the company’s corporate headquarters. The campus will be an expression of Patagonia’s stewardship for the environment and community.

Lexus of Bellevue

Lexus of Bellevue

Bellevue, WA

Quantum Consulting Engineers provided structural design of Lexus of Bellevue, a $20-million, 273,000 SF upscale automobile dealership and corporate office building in Bellevue, Washington.

The exterior features a glass facade with precast and metal panels. The front framed portion of the facility contains showroom and office occupancy. The rear of the building is designed to accommodate 60 service bays for vehicle repair, plus four levels of parking for inventory, and employee and customer parking. This area is post-tensioned concrete construction.

Igelsia De Cristo Ministerios

Iglesia De Cristo Ministerios

Downey, CA

Quantum Consulting Engineers provided the structural design for a 66,000 square foot auditorium for the Church of Christ Ministries complex in Downey, California. The two-story steel framed structure uses special concentric steel braced frames as the lateral-force resisting system. The project featured a complex curved balcony level that seats 1,800 people with the total seating at 4,600. In order to keep sightlines clear of columns, the roof girder trusses to span 147 feet while maintaining a maximum depth of only 66 inches to stay within the strict local height limits.

Another design challenge was the interface of the new steel building and an existing CMU structure. Because the finished floor height of the new structure was lower than that of the existing building, Quantum Consulting Engineers had to design and coordinate the phasing for underpinning the existing building. Each corner of the auditorium has glass enclosed circular stairwell entries that also incorporate a ramp structure. Due to the complexity of these elements and the tight coordination required between the architect, engineer and contractor, Quantum Consulting Engineers created all of the steel shop drawings for these elements along with the shop drawings for the grand entry stair.

Tree House Point

Quantum Consulting Engineers has provided structural engineering designs for over 15 treehouse structures. These structures range from simple platforms to full elevated residences. The treehouses are located in a variety of locations including: Washington, Montana, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

Quantum has worked closely with Nelson Treehouse and Supply developing unique detailing and framing solutions for the challenges of using live trees as a part of a structural system. Quantum has a long history of working with Nelson including prior work at Treehouse Point in Fall City Washington. Treehouse Point is primarily a bed and breakfast but serves multiple purposes such as a wellness retreat, a venue for weddings, and other events.

The treehouses utilize specially designed tree attachment bolts, that do not harm the tree, while providing support for the structure and accommodation for tree growth.

Seattle University Lee Center For The Arts

Quantum Consulting Engineers provided structural design for the renovation of an existing educational building into a theater space; with a 100-seat drama performance space, support space, and offices. Quantum conducted the initial feasibility study for renovating the existing building, as well as a preliminary framing study for raising the roof over the proposed theatre space.

The project received a 2006 AIA Seattle Honor Awards Citation.
